Senator sending mixed signals on how he would deal with two important issues; capital punishment and the on-going failure of America's drug laws.
While these may not be popular issues, they are nonetheless key to justice, equality under the law and the rule of law itself.
Dear Sir, congratulations on your victory in Iowa and strong showing in New Hampshire. Thank you for your continued efforts towards justice and equality under law.
I have studied your speech at Howard University, 9/28/07, in particular the civil rights section. While for the most part I agree with your suggested reforms relating to DOJ, I am particularly interested in two issues and request further elaboration on them.
I. The Death Penalty: I understand you "led the fight in Illinois to repair a broken death penalty system," yet you did not make it clear if you agree with capital punishment in the first place? Do you support the death penalty?
II. Drug policy:
A. Do you support the notion adults have an inherit right to privacy that outweighs the state’s interests in protecting (sic) the individual from him or her self?
B. Do you agree our nation’s drug laws are mostly unenforceable, widely ignored and destructive of the rule of law itself?
C. Will you advocate for the legalization, regulation and taxation of cannabis?
Sincerely yours,
