This poll came out a few days ago, and I saw no diary on it. The poll was commissioned by WSMV, the Nashville NBC affiliate. It uses 1003 likely voters.
The poll was taken on January 19-21, and was released on January 24. Here is the quick snapshot on "How would you vote if the elections was held today.
Clinton 34%
Obama 20%
Edwards 16%
Undecided 28%
Thompson 25%
Huckabee 24%
McCain 12%
Romney 7%
Undecided 26%
Tennessee is a February 5 state, lost among the large number of primaries, many in much larger states. A new poll will come out this week and will certainly show some changes.
On the Republican side, for example, the poll was done before Thompson dropped out, though surely many saw it coming already. The next poll will show us where a large number of Thompson voters (25% in this poll) will move. Of course, many Tennessee voters would support Thompson for a different reason than voters in other states, so their next choice might be very different.
The big news is the large "undecideds," particularly in a state where the candidates are not going to have time to do much campaigning. Will a lot of the undecideds turn into no-shows?
This is a fairly deep poll, with breakdowns by gender, race, region, and most important issue.
