Every once in a while, something just hits me as SOOOO wrong. What makes this one even worse is that it involves a Democrat who I had great respect for. She is a governor who is a rising star and who is to deliver tonight's Democratic response to President Bush’s State of the Union address.
All of us make mistakes in our lives, but this one is a head-scratcher.
Make the jump.
Of course I'm speaking of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Gov. Sebelius' 23 year old son John, as part of a class project at the Rhode Island School of Design, has developed a prison-themed board game called "Don't Drop the Soap." The game is currently being marketed at Don't Drop the Soap. I don't see anything creative or funny about prison rape jokes. They are the crassest form of humor, on a par with torture jokes. Real funny, huh.
Gov. Sebelius and her husband, U.S. Magistrate Judge Gary Sebelius are quoted that they "are very proud of their son John's creativity and talent."
According to MSNBC.com:
The contact information on the Web site lists the address of the governor's mansion.
and
The game includes five tokens representing a bag of cocaine, a handgun and three characters: wheelchair-using 'Wheelz," muscle-flexing "Anferny" and business suit-clad "Sal 'the Butcher.'"
Let's see... a Democratic Governor and her Magistrate Judge husband see nothing wrong with their son selling prison themed games out of the governor's mansion. With a prison rape joke title like "Don't Drop the Soap", it seems like a serious lapse in judgement to me.
I told Gov. Sebelius that "Rape is no laughing matter... period" at her Contact Page. If it offends you, send her a thoughtful note please. I know the timing is poor, considering that she is in the national spotlight tonight, but it just hit the radar today. Let Gov. Sebelius and her husband know that Rape. Is. Not. Funny!
