Say whatever the hell you want. This is still a democracy after all (I hope so at least).
You may say I'm wasting my vote, or helping the dreaded Clinton win, or you may troll rate me, or whatever the hell you are going to say or do to try to convince me otherwise... but I'm still going to vote for him. I have pondered over it long and hard, I have really tried listening to the arguments of the Obama and Clinton camps, I have viewed the viral "Yes We Can" video and was almost ready to vote for Obama...
Yet the only way I feel like I won't be wasting my vote is to vote for the only individual that isn't the "lesser of two evils" to me, the only individual whom I want to see in the White House. So on March 4th, I will not waste my vote, I will exercise my free will and cast a vote for John Edwards.
Obviously, I have serious reservations casting a vote for Obama or Clinton. I have concerns about Obama's capability to execute the highest office, but not his agenda. On the flipside, I have concerns about Clinton's agenda, but not her capability. Both choices scare me.
So I cannot vote with a clear conscience for either. Naturally, the Daily Kos community has been very convincing on both sides. I am impressed by Obama's following and empathy. I am also impressed by Clinton's strength and tenacity, but...
I know John Edwards is the only candidate who is both capable and holds my ultimate interests at heart, and I know (partly now because of tonight's results) that millions of you feel the same way I do.
I don't care what you think! I don't care if you think I'm wasting my vote! I don't want to be utilitarian. I want to vote for whom I want to vote, not who you think should or shouldn't win!
And guess what?
Edwards' campaign is suspended, your candidates are spending millions and millions of private (lobbyist?) money, and still he is getting tens of thousands of votes!
::proceeds to hide in flame-retardant tent::
[Update]: I fully expect many of you who do not support Edwards to come back in a few months time and blame myself and other Edwards supporters for ruining the chances of your candidate and/or jeopardizing the general election for the Democrats, just like many of you did and still do to Nader for 2000. That's fine. And if you want to blame the fact that we have the worst President in history on Nader, that's fine. The reality is that establishment Democrats have allowed provided a blank check for the injustices of the Bush administration in the past eight years, and many of these same people opposed a Gore candidacy because he too represents real change (look at his conflicts with Hillary Clinton). Your priorities are not in the right place and you need to take a look in the mirror. You can't keep blaming everything on Nader. At least I am not sacrificing my vote for the "greater good," whatever the hell that means.
I'm through with doubt, there's nothin' left for me to figure out...
Cuz I'm mad as hell can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should.
Guys, we still have a fight ahead of us. So let me vote for who I want to vote for, and let's get this democracy working again.
