While it's hard to argue either Democratic Senator decisively won Super Tuesday, though I'm sure supporters of both will, we know one thing. With 99% reporting in, we can officially project the losers of Super Tuesday. The right wing punditry is now dead. Or at least dying.
You couldn't head into the right wing blogosphere, or even the mainstream of right wing punditry without seeing a "McCain is the antichrist" post. Redstate, The Corner, and just about every other noteworthy right wing blog - they HATE him. I'm not sure why the hate him, but they possess levels of hate that come close to rivaling Hillary at times. And who was to deliver us from McCain - Mittmania! They pushed him for the last few months and with vigor the last few weeks. They trashed McCain to no end.
The result? Not only did McCain continue his inexorable march to the nomination on the backs of those Republicans who come closest to being described as normal. Not only did the Mittster win only 6 states - one his political home state and one his religious home state, and no noteworthy victories. He was beaten out by Huckabee! A candidate left for dead a couple weeks ago, vilified by the right wing pundits earlier, who went from being a spoiler that ruins it for Mitt to the only remaining credible challenger for McCain.
The right wing pundits have lost any influence they once had with evangelicals, who have seen one of their own and realized that the few issues they care about are not actually important to the higher ups. They've lost any influence over moderate to independent Republicans, who have long since begun migrating towards reality. They merely have influence over a population so delusional that they still believe in President Bush. They took that influence and put the hopes of the conservative movement in Mitt Romney, one of the worst and most phoney major candidates I've ever seen. And thus, on Wednesday, the 6th of February, ends the run of those destined to die a miserable death as some of the worst commentators ever to commentate.
Right wing pundits. We salute you. We know you will not go gently into that good night. But at least keep the screeching down to a dull roar. We've got a country to run over here.
