You know, I'm starting to understand the whole "Obama has not been vetted" meme. I can't figure out why it's so powerful when he's been running in a presidential primary for a year now. People have been digging and searching.
What kind of vetting do people want? What should be done that hasn't been? Rezko was tried (no pun intended) and found wanting. They've gone after his heritage and didn't find their smoking gun. They've investigated the preacher at his church. They've gone through his kindergarten papers. National Review is getting desperate enough that they're reading his wife's college thesis. It seems like they've searched pretty extensively.
I finally figured it out. Nothing has been found. The cynical assumption is that everyone has to be corrupt. If we haven't found a scandal yet, it just means that Obama is better at hiding it, not that he might actually be clean.
Maybe there's something still lurking out there, but if a scandal hungry press, the advance scouts of the Republican party, and the die hard Clinton fans haven't been able to find it yet, I'm starting to suspect that it doesn't exist.
A candidacy run on issues instead of scandals. Is it too audacious for me to hope for that?
