Last night, on Countown, Howard Fineman made a comment that really caught my attention. He said that a "African-American journalist" (unnamed) he spoke with after Obama's speech said he wasn't sure if the speech would catch on with "the knucklehead vote."
Excuse me? The knucklehead vote?
THE KNUCKLEHEAD VOTE?
Something about the way Fineman said that phrase, the "knucklehead vote," made me think that the unnamed "African-American journalist" wasn't referring to just working-class white voters (if indeed he actually said the phrase "knucklehead vote"). I think that unnamed journalist was referring more to uninformed, uneducated voters - those people who don't really bother to follow the issues - rather than black or white voters.
And even if that unnamed journalist really meant working-class white voters, did Fineman have to repeat the remark? Couldn't he have simply left it at "working class white voters"? Moron.
Well, Fineman can kiss this working class white voter's lily-white behind, because knuckleheaded or not, she's voting for Obama BECAUSE Obama gave a phenomenal speech, touching on positively radioactive subjects without placing blame, acknowledging that BOTH sides have resentments and anger based on valid fears and historical facts, and stating that we CAN rise above this hatred and divisiveness to reach a solution that we ALL can live with.
Knuckleheaded? Maybe. But at least this knucklehead understands that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the very definition of insanity.
