My piece of the DailyKos "that was one of the best speeches ever" pie :)....
They’re in the shadows watching.
Silent, but hopeful.
Young adults, Americans.
About 360,000 of them
Just minus the paperwork.
But this is the only country they’ve ever known.
You know them, you just didn’t know they are them.
It’s your neighbor, it’s your classmate.
How could you tell? They didn’t even know themselves.
The high school senior, 18.
She has aspirations for college
But fearful of how to fund it
Because she lacks 9 digits on a little blue card.
Daddy couldn’t pay the filing fee after she was brought here at age 3.
The college senior, 22.
Somehow he got this far
But perseverance can be halted upon his looming graduation
Because his degree isn’t good enough for the I-9.
Mommy forgot to tell him his secret, he’s over 18 now, it’s too late.
Unless
Unless
We elect a leader who will take their Dreams and Act upon them.
So in a week in which we feel
Inspired, Liberated, and Open
To talk about racial tensions in America
Let’s not forget the 360,000 young adult Americans,
Americans not by birth, and not by a choice of their own,
The majority of color
Not allowed to show up at the polls.
Treasure your vote,
Encourage others to treasure theirs.
Because the silent and hopeful
Would do anything to be able to vote for a man
That has vowed to allow them to not only Dream, but Act.
