Finally, the speech:
Also, here's the transcript: The Page
My two cents: Richardson is giving a much more personable speech than we saw from him during his own campaign....the "Katrina" anecdote was terrific. Also, I've noted that he has so far not given any platitudes about "two great candidates". It's all been an Obama endorsement. So there's that.
Update: OK, the speech just ended (1:06 PM ET). I'll admit, I'm one of those who really didn't think Richardson's endorsement would mean much in the long run (other than a day of positive headlines). Maybe it's just the immediate reaction, but I think I might have been wrong. That was a tremendous speech that hit all the right notes, and he has a personal style that comes across as honest and uncalculating. I wouldn't have said this an hour ago, but an Obama/Richardson ticket (if that happens to be the case) would be a damn good one.
Update 2: For those who didn't see the speech (still waiting on full video), Richardson began by diving into substantial praise of Obama's race speech from this week. Clearly, from his words today, that speech in Philadelphia was the entire reason why Richardson was moved to endorse...he didn't leave much doubt about that. So for those who question why he didn't step forward before Texas/Ohio, I think he answered that today.
Also, it's 1:25, and the networks (at least, MSNBC and CNN) have not yet dumped out of Obama's stump speech. That might be another major bonus from this endorsement---a full 20 minutes of free coverage of an energetic rally in front of 13,000-plus. Obama at his best.
