This is a bit of a rant. Occasionally something just irritates the hell out of me. For instance, the idea that Obama won’t win states like California or New York. It’s so absurd that I cannot stand seeing it anymore.
Listen up Hillary supporters: Barack Obama wins ALL the blue states in the general election.
Just like Hillary would. On top of that he could win a couple of purple states that no other Dem could. AND he brings a mess of House and Senate seats with him because he's embraced the Democratic 50 state strategy -- he has infrastructure in place just about Everywhere which he can leverage in the GE and for local races.
What don't people get about this? Honestly, it's mind-boggling sometimes. I love Obama and the idealism of his campaign. But I also love his pragmatism. And I'm primarily a pragmatist. Anyone who thinks Obama is winning on nothing but inspiring speeches and lucky breaks is deluding themselves. He's won this primary by running a campaign so tight, so agile, and so smart that it either gives other politicians wet dreams, or makes them cry.
And he Has won this primary. He’s won it by every imaginable standard. It’s done. And if he isn’t your candidate take solace in the fact that he's got a kick-ass, grassroots fund-raising machine and a committed, joyful and experienced ground crew in place for the GE – he’s unstoppable.
But honestly, I’m done with being patient. I’m done with tip-toeing around sore losers and coddling overly-sensitive naysayers. It’s time to grow the hell up. This isn’t a freaking T-Ball tournament. We’re wasting precious time. We're dithering along playing at a pathetic pantomime when we should be fighting for the future of our country. It's gotten beyond tiresome. I’ve listened to all the Clinton arguments about firewalls and big margins in big states and revotes and superdelegates. None of that has panned out for her. Her goalposts have moved to the absolute end of the field. No more.
It's time to stop splitting our donations between Clinton and Obama and start splitting them between the nominee and our most likely contenders around the country. It’s time to put our collective shoulders into beating the Repubs everywhere. And it’s especially time we start planning on how to wipe the floor with McBush and every arrogant, immoral, unilateral, mean-spirited, anti-environment, anti-worker, anti-healthcare, constitution-degrading, privacy-invading, money-grubbing thing he claims to believe in.
Democrats have been handed the perfect storm: widespread loathing for the outgoing Repub President and his policies; an unbelievably beatable opponent; and a vibrant, intelligent, articulate candidate that not only inspires and brings in new voters, that not only embraces the 50 strategy and can help downticket candidates, but also raises more money than god, and can organize like Martha Stewart on steroids. After years of disappointments and complaining about triangulation and milquetoastiness, we finally have a candidate that unapologetically embraces Democratic values and who can actually stand up and deliver the White House.
The primary is over. What the hell are we waiting for??
