After I read this story describing how Fidelity had blocked Daily Kos from employees, I emailed them a courteous email expressing my concern at their selective banning practises.
I was quite surprised to receive a reply today, and figured others might be interested in seeing it.
Below is their reply.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Fidelity regarding your
concern about website access.
Fidelity does not generally discuss details of its IT practices;
however, it is important to note that we do not restrict access to websites
because of their political views; Fidelity has long encouraged employee
participation in public affairs, and there are countless websites
across the entire ideological spectrum that are fully accessible to our
employees. Not unlike other major employers, we would have concerns about
sites that include profanity, for example. Other areas we would restrict
include sites involving pornography or gambling, for instance;
however, political opinion is not among the categories of concern.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Sincerely,
The Executive Offices

I have replied thanking them for their response, and expressing my satisfaction that per their own criteria, Daily Kos should be accessible to their employees.
