When Dr. Howard Dean was selected to head the Democratic Party, we were jubilant. He ran on a new strategy, that of involving, and building the Party, in all 50 states. We thought that was great. We cheered him on. We kept reminding each other that reclaiming the handles of power involved competing in all of those regions that had been abandoned, or ignored, by the Clinton's, their inner-circle, and the DNC of old.
Then we got distracted by shiny things. We got all excited by the power of selecting, and working for specific candidates, and giving them our money. We flexed our muscle, dug up a $10 or a $20, and made a difference in the chances of those we supported.
I think it's time we redirected our attention for a little while.
The DNC is suffering under a huge deficit in fund raising against the RNC.
We have a Convention in Denver, and a Presidential race, along with a continuing struggle to challenge every seat in every district and state. We have media ads, and press releases to get out. We have staffers to pay, and people who need a bit of cash to cover gas and a meal while they work their butts off for the Democratic Party.
It's time to dig out a few bucks and toss 'em in the direction of the Party, itself.
It's time to show all of those who fought the 50 state strategy, who thought that Dr. Dean was a "loose cannon", who cling to the old politics of triangulation, that we have Howard's back. It's time to show a little appreciation for all of his work, wisdom and skill by building up the coffers.
Clink the link and drop some bucks on the man who rebuilt the Democratic Party and made us a force to be contended with. He deserves our support.
Update: I seem to have uncovered a layer of people who will not support the DNC until they "do something", defined as what the demander wants. So I will make the following proposal:
If your problem is with Supers, Congress, Primaries, or Clinton and Obama, just send $10.12 to Dr. Dean. That will signify your desire to hold out until the next cycle, while assuring those terrific ads continue during this cycle.
