I peruse the British newspapers since they often have news stories ignored by the U.S. COMs or sources willing to leak juicy items outside of the U.S. market. Tonight I came across this interesting article in The Sunday Telegraph which claims the Obama camp has lined up 120 super delegates and thus will easily reach the magic number of 2024.5 by the end of the primary season.
A senior Democrat strategist, familiar with discussions at the highest levels of the Obama camp, has revealed that Mr Obama is now confident of the support of around 120 of the remaining 260 undeclared superdelegates.
His aides believe he will only need between 70 and 80 to be sure of the nomination if he wins the Oregon, Montana and South Dakota primaries as expected later this month.
It gets better below the fold.
For those of us who are vehemently opposed to Hillary being considered as a VP pick, the article puts this ridiculous idea to rest:
The strategist said Mr Obama has "no intention" of making Mrs Clinton his running mate, but that he is prepared to offer an olive branch to her supporters by seating delegates from Michigan and Florida, won by Mrs Clinton but excluded because they broke party rules.
I'm somewhat leery that Team Hillary will find the "olive branch" to their satisfaction since it was a bogus issue intended solely to win over super delegates and taint the legitimacy of Barack's nomination. All in all, I feel reassured and can sleep better tonight.
