This is not much of a diary. I have one foot out the door but I just watched Geraldine Ferraro and Rachael Maddow being interviewed on the Today Show by Meredith Vierra. It was Ferraro at her female-victim, race baiting self. Even Maddow was rolled by this non-stop hit job. I hope someone will get the video of this interview from YouTube and post it. You will be infuriated. You have to see it.
Ferraro spent most of the interview complaining that Hillary had been beat up by the boys in the debates, in spite of Maddow's protest that Hillary had injected sex herself, calling herself "a girl". She said Hillary had never gotten a fair shake in the campaign because of her sex. Maddow said it should be possible to discuss Hillary's sex without being sexist. Ferrraro would have none of it, portraying Hillary as this huge victim being done in by other sexist candidates including Barack Obama and Bill Richardson.
As if this wasn't awful enough, she once again brought race into the argument, saying that Hillary was subject to a protest sign at a rally by a sign that said, "Iron My Shirt". She said if (an imaginary) sign at an Obama rally had said "Shine My Shoes" that there would have been an outcry. She went on to deride Obama's act of flicking the dust off his shoulders by saying that it offended women.
I hope everyone has an opportunity to see this interview. I don't know how many people she represents in her thinking. But this bridge seems unmendable.
