Ok, this diary probably breaks several Dkos diary rules, but I really need a good read for the summer. See, I'm off to Romania ...
I'm off to Romania for an extended time to do work on applied sustainable development along the Black Sea Coast. I'll be with a mix of undergraduate and graduate students, plus a high-maintenance colleague, and so, I need a nice long book into which to escape. It'd also be great if it was a compelling read and I learned something. I thought I'd turn to my dKos community, as a group of like-minded progressives, for recommendations.
But what should it be?
A big long novel? (I've read all of Tolstoy and Pushkin and Dostoyevski).
Historical fiction? (I do love historical fiction.)
Biographies?
History?
EU integration?
Romanian history?
Given that I'll be in Eastern Europe, anything to recommend?
Eastern European History?
Anything good out there on Cossacks? Turkey/Bulgaria/Romania?
Cultural histories or studies?
I'm a city planner, anything good out there on the formation of Eastern European cities?
Thanks for taking time away from election threads ...
