So I was watching the townhall from Bristol yesterday, and one of the women stood up and told Barack that her 95 year old father was there and wanted to give Obama a gift. The man, Charles Edwards, gave Obama a beautiful hand-carved walking stick:
After receiving the gift, Obama said:
"It's beautiful," Obama told Edwards. "And, if members of Congress don't pass my health care bill, I'm ready," Obama said wielding the stick as supporters laughed and cheered.
"I'll whup 'em," he joked. "They better not mess with me. I'll have that stick."
This was honestly my favorite moment of the townhall. First, the fact that this 95 year old man got a chance to see/meet the first Black President of the United States and give him a gift. Also, the way Obama capitalized on the moment to show that he means business when it comes to his health care plan. It was really a beautiful moment, the video I posted doesn't show it, but the crowd gave Mr. Edwards a standing ovation as he walked up to Barack.
I see a diary on the Rec list talking about all of the stuff Obama's ALREADY done since officially becoming the presumptive nominee on Tuesday. Honestly, I don't see how anyone paying attention can't see that he really IS more than an empty suit, and while he does all of this work, he'll be inspiring us all.
And as usual:
