This is my first diary, so please be forgiving of any errors I may make. (I am highly impressed by the quality of the writing on this site in general, so I feel I bit intimidated to post anything).
This morning, I was watching the new McCain ad on CNN, you know, the one where he says he going to create jobs, make more and cheaper energy sources, fix health care, hold corporate CEO's accountable, fix the mortgage crisis and create millions of new jobs (mind you, this is a thirty-second spot---straight talk?!).
Well, the thing that has been catching my eye in the ad was at the end where he is in a factory and he is shaking the hand of a black woman. As a woman of color, I expressed how implausible it is that she is actually a McCain supporter. I thought to myself, "I bet she's totally for Obama". I felt I could tell by her expression (as you can see, I tend to practice amateur psychology on everyone I see in these ads, especially political ads).
Then today, it jumped out at me, the prominent visible Obama logo on the woman's clothing---She is wearing at Obama t-shirt!
Here is the ad.
The logo is most visible at 0:26.
Here is my best shot at a capture of the woman in her t-shirt.
What are his ad people thinking?! My guess is that they aren't, and their tone-deaf incompetence is just showing again. Please express your opinion and theories in the poll and the comments.
My take: I think this, although seemingly not a big deal, shows the shocking lack of attention to detail in the McCain campaign, attention that is essential in this YouTube, 24-hour Cable News political age. Although it seems it is a small mistake, I think it adds to the narrative the McCain campaign is at times, phoning it in (McCain rarely works weekends, per Politico), and that they are severely underestimating Barack Obama as an opponent.
This adds to the "out-of-touch" and "confused" narrative which is growing in length, now labeled "Oh, Magoo, You've Done it again!" in this fun diary by RobertInWisconsin. This ad makes me think it's not just McCain, but everyone involved with his campaign who are, possibly fatally (in the political sense) out-of-touch.
So is this indicative or symptomatic of potentially serious problems in the McCain Team or just a fun fact?
Either way, I hope this diary provides a little Sunday fun and please be gentle!
