In McCain's open to the public townhall meeting, a 61 year-old woman was arrested cited for trespassing on orders from the McCain security detail for carrying a sign that read McCain=Bush. Carol Kreck received a ticket and her court date is set for July 23.
As John McCain touts his credentials as a man for the people, his campaign and the propaganda it produces are busy silencing all forms of dissent. Think Progress adds the video:
You have two choices. You can keep your sign here and receive a ticket for trespassing, or you can remove the sign and stay in line and attend this town hall meeting.
Really? This should be covered and everyone should see this because it highlights this election for what it is. Obama should have 10 townhall meetings with McCain? He won't even let in anyone who disagrees with him.
So, like we've seen so many times, will the media pick this up? I'm not holding my breath.
Ok, this is a pseudo update, I just need to rant a little more.
Does this scare anyone else? I mean, the fact that this happens probably doesn't surprise anyone that visits this site, but when one thinks of the implication that apathy has toward these actions? It is downright terrifying. This woman wanted nothing more than to express her opinion. McCain probably wasn't even going to see the sign. And they treated her like a criminal just because his PR reps didn't think the message was propaganda friendly. Where does this end, and why won't the media talk about this? The erosion of a check and balance on the government relates to the job of the very serious people who tell us what to think in Washington. Don't they realize that? If they continue to ignore these things, we won't have them anymore, and they won't get to be super serious...
Update: It's been mentioned a few times that she was not actually arrested, but rather cited for trespassing. I misrepresented the charges, and I have made the changes accordingly. While being arrested is much worse than a citation, any action taken against Ms. Kreck because of her sign is both arbitrary and capricious. Whatever the government's action, I remain as outraged as ever.
