No, not THAT Clinton. Barack Obama is in serious talks with George Clinton, of Parliament/Funkadelic fame, to be his Vice Presidential running mate.

Born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on July 22, 1941, George Clinton actually grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. An inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, Clinton is considered one of the pioneers of Funk Music, along with James Brown and Sly Stone.

In Plainfield, Clinton ran a barber shop and formed a doo wop group called The Parliaments. Eventually, he attained a staff songwriting position for the Motown record company. Later on, in the 1970's, his group known as The Parliaments evolved into a funk music group, also dubbed Funkadelic.

Beginning in the early 1980's, George Clinton began to make solo albums, with the help of Parliament/Funkadelic ("P-Funk") members. In the mid-1980's, he was recruited by The Red Hot Chili Peppers - huge fans of Clinton - to produce their album "Freaky Styley."

I had the pleasure of seeing George Clinton and his "P-Funk All Stars" perform live back on July 12, 1994 at the Lollapalooza concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. I remember musing what a great Vice President he would make! True, he has no foreign policy experience, but he would definitely energize the college liberals. So when I read today (actually didn't) that Barack Obama was holding serious talks with Clinton, it brightened my day.
