I do consulting for individuals and was asked to define the election this year into one sentence and make it 8 words or less.
That took quite a bit of thinking on my part. What phrase captures how I want to frame the election. Is it about change or policy or new blood?
Then it hit me. Do you want a third term? Simple as that.
Let's put the burden of proof on the other side. We can debate policy all day long. Does John really want immigration change, is his position on Iraq ultimately the same as Obama and so on.
NO, it is about doing almost exactly the same thing for 4 more years. Sure McCain can nuiance stuff a little. But the gap between Obama and McCain is light years apart.
Come on McCain backers, explain to all of us how you differ from George Bush and Dick Cheney. Can you guarantee no more politicizing the Justice Department? No more silly wars, no lying about intel, no more bugging innocent people without a warrant. Is a warrant just too much to ask?
Hillary people, this applies to you. Your candidate is gone, she relented, she didn't have the votes and made a graceful exit. Sure she held some cards back, I would too. She has every right to keep her options open for 2012, this is America or at least it was until recently.
But you cannot vote for her.
So do you want a third term?
Or do you want someone who agrees on 98% of your positions while John McCain agrees on almost none.
Do you want a conservative Supreme Court that lasts for 20 more years? Do you want to lose abortion, expanded health care, better job training, lower taxes (applies only if you own less than 3 houses, assuming you lnow that), higher gas taxes, a worse environment, your sons going to war over oil until 2020 and more?
McCain backers, tell everyone how you are not a third term. You are not a different form of change as far as we can tell. Help us understand how you will be different from George W Bush. Please.
Hillary backers, do you also want a third term? Go ahead and help us understand why you would.
