Three years ago, the awful editor of the official rag of UCF (University of Central Florida--America's 6th largest school), ran an editorial that can only be described as sickening. In the days during Hurricane Katrina, editor-in-chief Ashley Burns argued that George W. Bush would go down in history as "one of the greatest presidents" because--get this--he "sprang into action" in New Orleans like he did on 9/11. Sad.
Well, they are at it again!
Padrick Brewer is the new EC, and this is the article he wrote on Palin:
Last Friday, John McCain picked Sarah Palin, America's supermom, as his running mate. Democrats beware, because there's a definite chance that this mama's going to knock you out. Maybe even literally. Have you seen that lady hold a gun?
Ick.
As McCain announced his choice to applause in Ohio, his risky decision has been met with both criticism and praise. For Republicans, McCain couldn't have made a better decision. Picking a 44-year-old, go-getter mom was not only a good balance to McCain's grandfather image, but it was one of the most strategic decisions we have seen in years.
Desperation is more like it.
However, the real question is whether Palin has experience to match her political novelties. We believe so: Beyond her feminine physique and eloquent speech, we see a woman who is ready to take this country by storm.
Raised in a modest home by two parents who worked at a local school in Alaska, Palin was brought up playing sports, winning beauty pageants and living the life of an ordinary young Alaskan (which includes moose hunting?). Her mom was a secretary and her dad was a coach and science teacher. Her traditional middle-class upbringing allows Palin to relate to the majority of Americans living this sort of lifestyle.
That's just part of it. It goes on to insult Obama for not having "direct" governing experience: ("626,932 peole is more than Obama ever ever directly goverened as Senator") And says how her husband can relate to working families, her amazing "ethics", and all about her baby and her "zeal"--blah blah.
Our school is very balanced, but obviously this paper isn't.
THERE WAS NOTHING about any concerns regarding Palin. Not her extreme views, her investigations, her tax hikes, her belief that Iraq is a task from God, etc. NOTHING!! IF you don't mind, I have a direct link to their letter to the editor page. Could you drop a line? EVEN if it's just a line or two, a swamp of people asking for balance DOES have an effect on these yahoos. Ashley Burns left the paper after he was deluged with "WTF"s.
Right here. Just ONE line. (The link up top also allows comments). Thanks:

UPDATE: I did write a letter--but I am encouraging as many people as I can to contribute. Thanks for those who did!
