Obama might have just played the cards right on this Lipstick story.
This is my first diary entry so go easy on me. I'm here down under in Australia and cant wait to be in line to vote Obama come Nov 4. Haven't registered to vote yet but will soon do as soon as I get back. Ill talk about Obama down under first and the Lipstick story down below.
People down here (the ones who are politically inclined) wholeheartedly support Obama. The US has lost most if not all of its charm and judging by the passion here, if Obama loses then we will go further down in world standing. Its really astonishing to see Audacity of Hope and Dreams from my Father up on the bestseller lists. Across the board, the media here is obsessed with the presidential race. Judging by the poll numbers what most Americans don’t understand is an Obama presidency would it in itself transform the World View of America. This is HUGE, I for one follow the guy passionately. He's a politician no doubt, but 1 who should be admired.
People here ABSOLUTELY HATE BUSH. Also, i see a lotta similarities between the elections here last year and this years presidential race. Ultimately the new guy defeated the incumbent here. Though I still have reservations about Obama being black. But seriously even if he loses we should respect the man and his talent cuz from where i see it, the only way he loses is cuz he is Black.
Having been to a few countries around the world in the past few years i'm certain 1 more republican presidency would ruin America and ultimately have an adverse impact on the rest of the world. The problem is not with conservation, and the conservative movement the issue is unnecessary war (the current 1 in iraq and the ones coming up with a few other countries), out of control spending and the biggest issue is the corruption, the lies, shredding of the constitution, etc.
Before I begin, my thoughts on Palin. She is a extreme right wing nut job who will definitely succeed McCain as President (my guess is a few months into 2009 when the stress of the White House takes McCain out). A complete novice who would most likely wage some sort of war both culturally within the US and militarily again possibly Ukraine, N Korea, Iran or Russia (gulp). Let me just quickly add here that my view on Iran is that they just want recognition, a friendly hand and a welcome into the foray or world economics. They are simply trying to strong arm the US (just as N Korea is, though I’m not too sure about N Korea's intentions).

Now getting right to the LipstickGate. Knowing Obama, Axelrod and Plouffe I’m certain the Pig and Lipstick comment was intentional and was done just to provoke the Republicans.
Here is why --- to kill the media love for Palin and break the unending news cycles covering her. Push back against the charges of being weak.
Here is how --- It was deftly done and the timing was perfect. Notice how Obama managed to stay above the fray, well that’s because the comment itself was a no brainer. But the hound dogs, the Rovians are, they pounced on it. And he did it at the right time. Had he done this 3 days ago it would have not have been a home run.
Notice the vetting on Palin only just began a few days ago and the results were just coming out (delayed by the initial republican offence). The timing was key to all this. He waited and waited till there was enough dirt on her, put this comment out there and finally the Media woke up and called out McCain for this Phony nonsensical issue, along with dishing out Palins record. It all ties up nicely together. Was sort of a one-two-three punch. Attacking from the position of defence. Defence
You might think I’m a bit cynical with all this. Before you do, read on...
Was it risky --- yes, but so was his acceptance speech. Notice the similarities.
Did he need to do this --- absolutely, but the important thing is he managed to come out on top with his brand of new politics intact.
Had he not done it --- the upcoming Palin interview would have potentially derailed the Obama campaign.
Now the icing on the cake would be a a interview full of gaffes by palin. That would deflate the McCain campaign.
If Palin does well --- the bounce would slowly settle.
If not --- expect Rev. Wright sooner rather than later.
Remember no matter what --- this is a historical election so it will go down to the wire, no matter what the situation is. So vote early and volunteer come election day.
I plan to camp out with a bunch of people 3 days before early polling begins to send a shiver up the Rovians and hopefully encourage more 20 somethings to GOTV (hopefully we can get some traction in the news). For all the gadget freaks out there, this is bigger, much bigger than the iPhone launch. Lets make it happen!!!
