According to the Alaskan Department of transportation, Sarah Palin's administration is still considering the project. There are a number of options they are going over, including ferries and bridges. This adds an entirely new layer to the lie that she is any kind of anti-pork spending reformer.
"What the media isn't reporting is that the project isn't dead," Roger Wetherell, spokesman for Alaska’s Department of Transportation, said. In a process begun this past winter, the state’s DOT is currently considering a number of alternative solutions (five other possible bridges or three different ferry routes) to link Ketchikan and Gravina Island.
This is being reported by ProPublica at this link.
They arent being specific about where the funding is coming from, but they are reporting about half of the funds originally planned for the bridge have still not been spent.
I am amazed. She has completely labeled this project as a waste of money, yet her own administration still hasnt dropped it.
Sarah Palin: For the bridge to nowhere before she was against it before she was for it.
Update: This ProPublica site is awesome. I don't know if I should have heard of them before, but I followed a link from pollster.com and found these guys. Take a look!
