McCain's absurd political posturing -- his claim that he was "suspending" his campaign -- is well-documented. We can now add Chapter 2 to McCain's absurdist tale, as now comes word that the McCain campaign was taking credit for the passage of the bailout . . . right before it was defeated!
As if he hadn't already made himself look ridiculous with his transparent posturing when he threatened to skip last week's debate, McCain somehow managed to one-up his own ridiculousness by attempting to take credit for the passage of the bailout bill . . . just moments before it crashed and burned.
The McCain campaign has gone beyond the Keystone Kops. I'm beginning to suspect that they don't actually have ANYONE running the campaign, that instead, surrogates just go out and say anything, anytime -- whatever pops into their head that they think at that moment will help McCain. How else to explain the complete disarray, the complete lack of foresight, and the complete jumble that is their "message."
Enjoy this priceless gem from this morning, as the McCain campaign reduces him to the role of clueless clown once again:

John McCain's presidential campaign claimed credit as Congress readied Monday to vote on an emergency economic package, but Democrats said the Republican's last-ditch intervention had been no help.
Mitt Romney, McCain's erstwhile rival for the Republican nomination, said the deal on a Wall Street bailout worth up to 700 billion dollars would never have happened without the Arizona senator.
Speaking on NBC television, the former Massachusetts governor said "this bill would not have been agreed to had it not been for John McCain."
"That doesn't mean that he's the only guy doing that. And there many people ... who have been critical to it," Romney said.
"But, you know, this is a bipartisan accomplishment, a bipartisan success. And if people want to get something done in Washington, they just watch John McCain," he said.
"He's been the guy whose name is at the top of major pieces of legislation for a long time."
