You remember that last month two women, Lyra and Quinn, sent an email to 40 friends to register their disapproval of Sarah Palin as Vice President. Their email was forwarded around the country and within days they had received 170,000 signatures from women everywhere.
They're back with a direct appeal to Sarah Palin to resign. See below:
Dear friends and fellow-lamenters,
Last week, prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker called for Sarah Palin to resign from the Republican ticket, saying of her recent interview with CBS's Katie Couric, "there's not much content there." She also called Palin "clearly out of her league."1 And this from a woman who, just a few weeks ago, praised Palin, saying she showed "strength, conviction, determination, confidence."2
Now, even a conservative columnist and former Palin supporter is saying it: Palin is far from Vice-Presidential material.
We're writing you now because despite our chorus of voices rising up in opposition to McCain's dangerous and demeaning Vice-Presidential pick, the race is still incredibly close. But it's become even more obvious that Palin doesn't just disagree with our politics - she's dangerously unprepared to do the job. So we've launched a petition asking her to step down. It reads simply "Governor Palin, for the good of the country, please step down as John McCain's running mate." We'll deliver your signatures and personal comments to her campaign.
Will you sign?
Sarah Palin: please resign.
As you know, four weeks ago we wrote a letter asking women across America to tell us why Sarah Palin was an unacceptable choice for Vice President of this country. We sent that letter to 40 friends and family, who passed it on to their friends and family. Today, if you are reading this letter, it means that you were one of the 170,000 women who wrote to us from every corner of this country. From Juneau to Houston, from Virginia to Oregon, from great-grandmothers, working moms, college students, independents, and republicans who have turned their back on McCain due to his reckless choice, your letters have been wise, impassioned, and deeply inspiring. We thank you for them.
With only one month before the election, we know that - with your help - we can still accomplish our goal of electing an administration that is truly capable of leading us into the 21st century.
We all want to see a woman in the White House. But not this one.
Thank you so much for your support,
Lyra & Quinn
