This is a reality based community. We routinely bash Republicans for being out of touch with the facts, and basing their political positions on feelings and intuition instead of data and sense. Yet we tolerate religious faith as though it were compatible with this approach. It isn't, and we shouldn't--at least not without some examination.
I am open to the possibility that there is a god. I view it as utterly unlikely--about as unlikely as the possibility that I have had three penises protruding from my anus every waking moment of my life, and that I have been hallucinating my penis-free existence this whole time. But, if someone presented convincing evidence, or even reasoned argument to support that position, I would be willing to consider it.
So here's your chance, religious folk. Present your arguments, your evidence, your reasoning. Please bear in mind that the comforts your fairy tales may bring you are not evidence of their truth.
UPDATE: well, kids, i see i'm having the same "arguments" over and over again, or worse, simply being responded to with vaguenesses or non-sequiturs. it's a waste of brain.
i'm going to have a few beers and forget about what's passed for "thinking" here tonight. have a great night!!
