I am deeply troubled tonight. I mean "troubled" in the "feel it in the gut" kind of way. I have other things that should be taking my attention tonight. I have work to do. I have some family things I should be taking care of. Yet I find myself troubled. I am troubled about Obama and his campaign...not only in the fear that he might lose and our country will miss out on a great opportunity, but also in the fear that he might win and we will have a large percentage of the electorate believe the lies that have been coming from McCain. What might it mean to have a president that many persons believe, really believe, "pals around with terrorists" and really doesn't love our country? Lies! But how dangerous could that be. I don't know.
In the midst of my inner angst, I just made another (small) contribution to the Obama campaign. And, in the midst of my inner angst, I thought of some things I wish were being said and I thought of who I wish would say them. You may have your own ideas. There are many on this site who have much more invested in this and put much more thought into this than I do. See the list below:
Here's what I wish was said. Some are variations on what has already been stated. But, at least in my mind, I have it said pretty much exactly like this by the persons below.

BIDEN -- "Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. "Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. ... Just saying the word a lot does not make it true."

OBAMA -- "John McCain and I don't really get to talk to one another except through the media, whether liberal or conservative or whatever. We talk to persons and then the rest of America sees us on TV or hears us on the radio and then listens to persons telling the country what it is that they thought we said. I want to say a couple things to John McCain right now and his campaign and I hope the media passes this word on to Senator McCain. (Looking at camera...) John, you are an honorable man. And it distresses me when I see honorable men act in dishonorable ways. You said, early on, that this was going to be a positive campaign. I guess that this is not true any longer. Do you really want to get off of the issues that actually matter to the American people to question my character by spouting lies and trying to connect me with persons or events or groups that I really have no connection with? I have tried to run what I think is a "positive campaign." I have tried to stick with issues. But if you continue to attack me with lies, I will be forced to sink you with the truth. If you want, we will have the American people sitting around their kitchen tables reading articles on the Keating Five. We'll have millions of Americans googling "The Alaska Independence Party." We'll talk about the sanctity of marriage vows and our respective health reports. We will have people holding signs, quoting misogynistic comments or jokes you have said. We'll start looking our respective educational backgrounds questioning who has the intelligence, the basic intelligence, to lead this country. And, as you rehash the lies, just telling them louder and more often, I will tell the American people to "look it up" and not listen to either you or I, and when you lose, the majority of Americans will look at you, an honorable man, and will question your character. I don't want to do that, John. I don't want to divide our country like that. And I would hope that you wouldn't want to do that to yourself. So do you want to get about the business of having a discussion on how to fix the economy or end the war? Or, do you really want to see who can be the better character assassin?"

KATIE COURIC -- "I may be throwing out any so-called journalistic integrity here. I may be accused of being part of the liberal media. I may lose my job. But, Governor Palin needs to hear something from me. I am sorry that she was annoyed during our interview. It was not my intention to annoy her. Nor was it my intention to ask questions that seemed out to get her. Forgive me for thinking that "What do you read to shape your world view?" was a non-biased question. Forgive me for thinking that knowing some Supreme Court cases beyond Roe V. Wade could be important for someone who will be just a heartbeat away from the presidency. Forgive me for the puzzled look on my face. But you are just talking points with lipstick."

GWEN IFILL -- "Governor Palin, I'd like to ask you some follow up questions..."

THE ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS -- "Governor Palin, when are you going to do an interview for us?"

SEN. TED STEVENS -- "So, Sarah...are you gonna' vote for me? (Winks into camera)

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE -- A skit about the Alaska Independence Party. I think this is a bigger issue than anyone has made it out to be.
