This morning, the Connecticuit Supreme Court will rule on a landmark case involving the rights of gay people to marry.
The lawsuit originally was filed because the plantiffs believed that the marriage law in that state was unconstitutional, as it discriminated against same sex-couples.
I have it on good authority that the announcement will come down at 11:30 AM EST.
Here is the only article I have found about this breaking news.
Eight same-sex couples sued in 2004, saying their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process were violated when they were denied marriage licenses.
The plaintiffs want the court to rule that the state's marriage law discriminates against them because it applies only to heterosexual couples, therefore denying gay couples the financial, social and emotional benefits of marriage
I have a friend working in the legislature that is optimistic, but of course no one has any idea which way this ruling is headed. With the California case being on the brink of disaster, one can only hope that announcing this case so close to an election has a positive effect - not only on CT and the neighboring states, but on the other side of the country.
