Remember the post-election analysis in 2004? Remember what all the talking heads were abuzz about? How the election was won by "value" voters. Who were these value voters? They have also been called "salt of the earth", "heartland America," "patriotic Americans," "real Americans," holding onto "small town values" and "family values." They are overwhelmingly white and overwhelmingly connect to their religious identity as much as they hold onto their national identity. Their world views have largely been buffered against by Republican leadership, which has perfected the ability to speak in code. But these voters haven't been listening, to the most part, to Republican leadership.
They have been listening to Rush Limbaugh:
I tell people don't kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have two on every campus--living fossils--so we will never forget what these people stood for.
They have been reading RedState:
I repeat: Should the entire American Left fall over dead tomorrow, I would rejoice, and oder pizza to celebrate. They are not my countrymen; they are animals who happen to walk upright and make noises that approximate speech. The are below human. I look forward to seeing each and ever one in hell.
They have been reading Kathleen Parker:
Here's a note I got recently from a friend and former Delta Force member, who has been observing American politics from the trenches: "These bastards like Clark and Kerry and that incipient ass, Dean, and Gephardt and Kucinich and that absolute mental midget Sharpton, race baiter, should all be lined up and shot.
Well, here they are in all their glory.
The Republican party is no longer able to control its members. John McCain is trying to put on airs that he is calming them, yet he still puts out ads that accuses his opponent of being linked to domestic terrorism. Of course, none of these people know a stitch about the Weather Underground or Bill Ayers. The attack is effective only in that it feeds the pre-conceived notion of these radicals. But, remember, these are the same people that delivered the election for George W. Bush and these are the same people the media praised as heartland, salt of the earth value voters. Thankfully, due to YouTube and a presidential candidate that does not back down, we are able to see them for who the really are. Paranoid, hateful and wrong. Now that the rest of the world has seen them for who they really are and what their form of government leads to they are rejecting them.
What does this mean? Fox News and talk radio will do all that they can to delegitimize an Obama presidency and Democratic rule. If we win big in November, as most polling now seems to indicate, we can not let up. We must hold our Democratic leaders accountable early when they make stupid decisions and support them when they are working in our interest. We must continue to demonstrate the fallacies of conservative government. We must fight corruption, serve our communities, and do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Meaning, we must always stand up to racism, sexism, unjust economic policies, fight for the poor and the right to health care, but we do that because we see the good in humanity and not because we are motivated by hate as the nut jobs in the above videos so aptly demonstrate.
