I am not conspiracy theorist, but I have a feeling that there is something lurching in the wings that will be a big deal to Obama. The stuff they have come up with so far has been nonsense, easily explained away (ACORN, Ayers). At this point, even the playing of the hateful speeches of Jeremiah Wright will probably just be a ripple on the water. I mean, we have all heard what he said, Obama has explained it (maybe not to somes satisfaction), but it may cause a point or two drop, but not a real game changer. Time is too short for it to be played and replayed in such a way as to drive the polls down to a losing percentage. Lets see, what else might they have? What if there IS a tape of Michelle Obama saying "whitey"!!! How would that play? McCain and company are devious enough to actually have such footage, and be saving it as a last desperate attempt at the Nth hour. If that happens, the real gloves will come off.
So far, Obama has played it smart by not directly (personally) attacking McCain (except on economics), nor Palin (sexist overtones). Tonight, McCain will try to spring some new charges on Obama about "something". WE all know how he likes suprises and dramatic effect. Reacting to the challenge of "say it to my face", he will bring up Ayers once again, and I am sure that Obama will be prepared for that, and attacks about ACORN as well, but he will play it cool and counterpunch. These will not play well, simply because we have heard them a thousand time. My feel is that McCain will bring up something new, and it wont be about Michelle saying the word "whitey" (if they have that, they are saving it). It will be something new, or a line of questioning in order to get Obama on the record, thereby setting him up for the hit AFTER the debate. Hey, I watch Law and Order, so I know how this game works. So lets assume for a minute that a new topic is broached, or an old topic to which Obama formerly denied the accusation. Would it matter?
Barack Obama has been vetted, tied up, called a traitor, a Muslim, big spender, an Arab, and at times, all in one breath. Are there deadly sins about him that might cause us all to walk away? I dont see it, unless there is some direct connection to him and something illegal. Lets say if:
- Obama had an affair: Some years ago, while an inner city organizer, Obama was hooked up with some pretty young thing. Even if it were more recent, does that really change anything. I have actually heard rumors that Obama (previously and currently) liked men, and had bestowed "oral pleasures", if you get my meaning. After all, McCain was a serial cheater.
- Michelle Obama said the words "whitey": During one of Rev Wrights sermons, or some other event where Michelle was a participant, she discussed white people in a denigrating way,and used the word "whitey". Because of McCains recent racial insensitivity, it doesnt make her right, but doesnt it balance the scoresheet? The first impressions of Michelle Obama were negative, but the campaign carefully recrafted her image into a softer tone. Does the McCain campaign then use this, juztaposed with clips of Rev Wright to imply that Obama isnt what he appears to be?
- Obama took money: Although the connections with Rezko are dubious at best, what if Barack Obama actually took direct payments from someone?
- Obamas birth certificate is fake: There is some internet back and forth about Obama actually being born in Indonesia. Can McCain throw something out there that opens this line of questioning again?
- Obamas former drug use: What if McCain dragged up someone who actually purchased drugs from Obama? This person proclaims that Obama was a local cocaine dealer.
In the two or so short weeks remaining, our dedication and fortitude will be tested. The guilt by assoiation tact has failed. We can expect a direct assault on something that Obama or Michelle did personally. How would these things effect your vote?
