We're in a heady moment right now, as McCain blinks his way into political oblivion, and promises to take the GOP there with him. Super majority in the senate, anyone?
But how will the GOP pick itself up and reconstitute itself? And what can we do to make sure they fail? One thing is to consider who they might choose to run in 2012. I know, I know - as Obama said, getting too cocky is going to get us a "spanking."
But then again it's not like the GOP isn't above stepping over the still warm bodies of McCain and Palin to look ahead to the next race. And who do they see leading the way? It's Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana.
Also at Martin, who notes:
Their flyer touting Jindal's speech features quotes from conservative luminaries. "The next Ronald Reagan," says Rush Limbaugh.
A friend of mine suggested this might happen a couple of weeks ago. He thought that the GOP already expected to lose this race, given everything they had going against them, and had intentionally thrown Palin in front of the bus to get their base used to the idea of getting behind someone who's different from what they've known. If they can support a woman, why not a conservative Indian American? This may also explain why McCain spared Jindal his car wreck of a campaign and everyone in the GOP speaks so lovingly about him.
