Yes, I know, Joe Biden has already addressed this more magisterially than I can. But Sarah Palin's, and Michelle Bachmann's, comments about pro- and anti-American parts of the country prompted me to write a rare political e'mail to friends and family. Here it is for more general delectation, with a few comments added to reflect later-breaking news.
The pro-America parts of America?
That's where Sarah Palin likes to campaign, according to a recent statement in the Washington Post:
"Palin also made a point of mentioning that she loved to visit the "pro-America" areas of the country, of which North Carolina is one. No word on which states she views as unpatriotic."

Judging from the response which she got recently in New Hampshire, it might be one of the places she considers anti-American. Or maybe they just didn't like being told that they were in the "Great Northwest".

Or maybe the state of Pennsylvania is anti-American, since Mrs. Palin reportedly was booed at a hockey game in Philadelphia.

Or maybe it's more widespread than that. Republican Michelle Bachmann recently stated on "Hardball", that not only Barack Obama, but all "liberal" members of Congress "may hold anti-American views" and should be "investigated".

It's not exactly clear how much of America would be left by the time Mrs. Palin and Mrs. Bachmann got through purging those portions they deem "anti-American".
Presumably Mrs. Palin is more comfortable in North and South Carolina, where her white "pro-America" supporters, in between screaming about "niggers" and threatening to assassinate the Democratic candidate, can assemble a large enough mob to feel safe roughing up newspaper reporters and attacking bookstore owners.

This, evidently, is Sarah Palin's vision of "the pro-America parts of America". It's not a place I want to live. I prefer the real America, the historical America, the America I grew up in and live in, a land of genuine liberty where an ironclad Constitution protects the basic rights of citizens of every color, creed and political persuasion. But that's probably even not on Sarah Palin's map of "pro-America parts of America".
What about your home? Does Sarah Palin approve of its level of pro-Americanness?
