Honestly, have all of you gone soft? Yes, everyone responded admirably when Michele Bachmann (Crazy-MN) ran her mouth on MSNBC. We raised something crazy like $300,000 dollars in 24 hours, and got a lot of national attention. That's awesome.
But unfortunately, Bachmann isn't the only crazy ass Republican running her mouth. Not even close. There's plenty of other good Democrats fighting to win close races, and even when it's posted on the front page, not a single one of you is willing to open your pockets for victory.
In Alabama, yet another ultra-conservative right-wing GOP thug has been spouting off inflammatory lies. Mike Rogers is apparently running on a platform of "communist liberals from New York City are coming to Alabama to support my opponent and make everyone get an abortion". His opponent, Josh Segall, is desperately trying to close the gap and take AL-03 from Rogers. He needs money. But with painful few exceptions from the community, it has not been forthcoming.
And it's time we changed that.
"Segall trying to run from his liberal friends... Segall supported by radical left wing blog Daily Kos who has attacked Governor Palin and her family."
That was posted on Mike Rogers' blog. That quote made the front page of Daily Kos tonight. Two of his supporters here, alpolitics and CornSyrupAwareness, desperately tried to drum up more support for Segall. They posted a video of one of Rogers' campaign ads:
Narrator: Who's behind Joshua Segall's negative campaign?
Cash.. from Hollywood and New York City.
Old Man 1: New York Citeh? Old Man 2: But he's runnin' he-uhr?
Narrator: Why are Liberals behind Segall? He's one of them.
Old Man 2: Joshua Segall is pro abortion.
Old Man 1: That don't fly down 'ere.
Narrator: Segall's worked for Liberal causes across the country.
Old Man 2: And now he's runnin' here?
Old Man 1: He'd be a change all right... A Liberal change.
Narrator: Joshua Segall, Liberal records, Liberal values.
I'm Mike Rogers and I approve this message.
Honestly, I thought that shit was satire at first. But then I realized, it's Alabama and some people haven't gotten the memo it's 2008 and hokey hillbilly bullshit like that SO went out of style in the '50s.
Rogers is running scared if he's resorting to running ads like that. And polling proves the race is close:
http://www.progressiveelectorate.com...
Based on a Sept 30- Oct 1 poll by Capital Survey Research , Mike Rogers leads Josh Segall 44.9 % to 36.9%. Rogers got 212 votes while Segall got 171 votes. And 88 were still undecided.
I've been told from a couple of reliable folks that Segall is polling with African Americans right at 70%. If you move that number to a more realistic 95% based on past election data and the high number of African Americans that will likely vote straight ticket this cycle you get a totally different picture.
We know that 32% of the 471 sample are African Americans which equates to 151 voters.
So instead of Segall getting 106 votes from African Americans he would get 143 based on getting 95%. So let's take 7 from Rogers (18.9%) and 30 from the undecided voters (81%) and not change any other variables. We would think it would be more likely that those African Americans coming over to Segall would be from the undecided votes rather than from the Rogers voters.
Rogers would have 205 votes 43.5%
Segall would have 208 votes 44.2%
and we would have 58 undecided voters 12.3%
Even if you move the number down to 85% to 90% of the African American Voters going Segall's way, this race is still within just a couple of points. We could certainly expect that even at the 85-90% the sheer numbers of African American turnout could be high enough to make up the difference based on registration numbers and the Obama factor.
44.9% to 36.9%, in a poll done two weeks ago. A 9 point race. CQ Politics rates this race as "lean Republican". We can so do this. We can prove that it is within out power to defeat racist, radical right-wing Republicans all across the country, from Minnesota to Alabama. This site has long been a bogeyman of the right, for good reason. They're SCARED of us. They FEAR our power. So why the HELL aren't we giving them good reason to fear our power to elect Democrats?
Look, when this race first came to my attention a couple of days ago, I realized that this race was within our grasp. It's not impossible. I threw in $10, because I'm a Southerner and I want the South to be blue again like the ol' days. Today, I saw AL-03 mentioned on the frontpage. I kinda smiled; the race is about to tighten up further. But, the ActBlue meter that Segall's local supporters stayed nearly static the entire night. I think I was donor #18 the other night, and I was donor #20 tonight.
Please donate to Josh Segall, Kossacks. To put my money where my mouth is, I just put ANOTHER $25 on top of the $10 I gave before I wrote this diary. Because after all, if a Democrat is going to be attacked for associating with a bunch of "New York City liberals" like us, then shouldn't we at least stick up for the friends we didn't even know we had?
(Note: This is only my second diary ever, and I haven't quite figured out how to do ActBlue links. If the above doesn't work, use https://secure.actblue.com/...
Throw Rogers an anvil, Kossacks!
