We have here the power to make change happen.
After months of fundraising, campaigning, getting out the early vote, and agonizing over every detail of this election, here we are. A mere 120 hours from now the polls will be closed and all that will be left is to count the votes. Iowa's three Democratic Congressmen are expected to be returned to office. But the two Republicans are facing strong opposition from Becky Greenwald, in the 4th District, and Rob Hubler in the 5th. Just this week, Democrats supporting Greenwald in the 4th District heard some exciting news.
First, there was news of a new public poll by Research 2000 showing Greenwald within the margin of error in her race to unseat Tom Latham.
Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 10/20-22. Likely voters. MoE ±5% (no trendlines).
Latham (R-inc) 47
Greenwald (D) 42
This is an encouraging development not only because Greenwald is within the 5 point margin of error, but also because it shows Latham at well below 50%.
In more good news, yesterday, Greenwald received the endorsement of the Des Moines Register, the state's largest circulation daily. In its endorsement, the Register called out Latham for his lack of accomplishment over the past 14 years he has been in Congress. While endorsements do not win the day, certainly the Register's endorsement is something no one would turn down and it can only help to ease any concerns the undecided voters might have about Greenwald.
And finally, the Greenwald campaign unveiled a new tv ad leading into Barack Obama's half hour spot last night. The new ad can be viewed here.
Greenwald can take this seat and, incidentally, be the first woman elected to Congress from Iowa. In another day or so, monetary contributions will be too late. Dig in, help the Greenwald campaign finish strong and take this seat back. I just dug a little deeper and kicked in another contribution. You can help, too. So why not go on over and throw her another $20.08 (because in '08, change is important) or more?
