Hello all, our long national nightmare is about to end.
I took my toddler and missus to vote early in a Detroit exurb. Yes, the signs have been good, Obama signs in an area where you couldn't find more than a handful of Kerry signs last time. And few McCain signs, outnumbered by Ron Paul signs actually.
My three old was exceptionally behaved, as we had to shush him occasionally within the polling place. He actually expected to see Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I just wanted him to avoid calling McCain a "doodyhead" as he is wont to do (hm, don't know where he got that).
Everything worked seamlessly in the a.m. crowd, and the toddler picked up something of the respectful silence of the place.
As soon as we exited and made the walk to where people can canvas legally, he spied another car with an Obama sticker.
I didn't know if the person walking towards us had just exited that car or another. He was fiftyish and I had him pegged as a diehard McCain supporter. Sad to say, I was indeed judging a book by the cover. There are more than a few to go on around here.
"Barack Obama!" said the little one, catching sight of the other car's bumper sticker.
The older man grinned and got down on one knee. He held up his hand for a high five. "Yes, we can, little man!"
My kid gleefully gave him a high five....and as we trudged to our car, he did have one small objection. "That's not Joe Biden, daddy."
No, it's not. It's just one real nice guy, I told him.
