Tonight (after some time spent after work phoning Nevada for Obama) I watched PBS until McCain had conceded - no way was I going to miss seeing that live - and hopped in the car to run to my son's place a couple of towns away.
Barack's victory speech came on just as I was getting off the freeway.
As I pulled up to the stop light at the exit, he was just getting the first words out, and there I am sitting in my car alone banging on the steering wheel and whooping, and I glance at the taxi in the next lane and the driver is looking at me and doing the same thing!
We roll down our respective windows and he says, "Are you listening to him?" I yell back, "It's a frigging miracle! I'm so happy!" He looks me in the eye and nods, "We finally have a level playing field." "And about time," I respond. "Bless you!" we say together as the light changes and we go our separate ways.
So I, a old(ish) hippie chick who has waited more than 40 years to see hope again take hold in the citizens, and he, a middle-aged AA cab driver, shared that brief moment of mutual elation as we both recognized and shared the joy of a shift in the universe that opens us up to our mutuality.
First-timer here, but I had to share this!
