This will be a very short diary. I only want to make one hopeful point in light of seeing some of the worst GOP Members of Congress keep their seats.
That's this: for every house seat the Democrats gain, the Bachmanns and Shadeggs come to represent an ever larger portion of the House Republican caucus. The GOP is backing itself into a corner and is completely failing to DUMP the aspects of their "brand" that are most toxic to their future with the American electorate.
Let's not kid ourselves, there are many kinds of Republican thinking that can be sold to a wide section of America--from small-government fiscal conservatism to George H.W. Bush-style foreign policy. The good news for us is that these make up the most neglected & abandoned territory in the GOP's field of ideas.
Instead, they've got the idea that Adam Smith & Thomas Jefferson were socialists or even communists, the idea that Democrats don't love their country or want to sell it out, and this kind of tripe.
Not to mention, strategically, the big GOP idea that victory will come by suppressing as many votes as possible. (Obama must push policies that will lead to universal registration, higher turnout, and counting every vote correctly.)
Smells like victory to me. Let's be vigilant in supporting real fact-based progress under the Obama Administration, and help the Republicans consign themselves more and more to the past and to the imaginary landscape painted by Fox News.
