Jim Martin has released a statement. The ballots that are not counted are democratic heavy, and Chambliss is now at under 50.0% in the polls. December 3, there will be a runoff election for this seat.
We are in a runoff. And the runoffrace begins right now.
Yesterday was a historic day in American history. Barak Obama was elected President of the United States.
I was struck by what he said last night.
He said, "For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after the children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage or pay their doctors' bills or save enough for their child's college education. There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair."
Saxby Chambliss gained this seat by linking triple amputee Max Cleland with Osama Bin Laden. I know that everybody is spent both emotionally and financially at this point, but the elections of 2008 are not over yet.
Let us win this one for both Jim Martin, and Max Cleland as well as the people of Georgia.
