It was a really long day at the West Hollywood Precinct (#9000834A) where I was the Ballot Box Poll worker. There were 636 regular and 46 provisional, and 4 mail-in ballots cast at my precinct at Crescent Heights and Fountain Ave.
The Inkavote machine that I operated was not fully functional. The part of the machine that was for 'audio ballots' did not work. Nor, did a replacement brought over an hour into polling. The machine did a great job for the rest of the day, and at the end spit out a complete ballot summary (something apparently it wasn't supposed to do). The counts were complete and accurate at 8:02PM PST. 636 regular ballots had been cast. Obama got 568 and McCain got 57. Prop 8 NO passed by a similar margin. A "FlipVideo" recording of the results tape was made for preservation.
This leads me to know that ELECTION REFORM IS ON ITS WAY. There is now NO WAY that you can not have a 99% accurate reflection of the election 45 minutes after all the polls close. And, then results will be on the web, and anyone can 'do all the analysis'. I came, I saw, it's not that hard to see how you can do it, with a paper ballot trail to boot. Please leave me comments on election systems, it'd really help me. I'd like to have a really fast, clean, accurate election done before I die.
