Please donate to the George W. Bush Presidential Center, Bush's presidential library.
I've been thinking about George Bush and his plans after he leaves Washington. Obviously, the next thing he'll focus on is the Presidential Library.
On February 22, 2008, Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas announced that they had been chosen as the site of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which will contain a library, museum and institute.
From the National Archives:
Presidential Libraries promote understanding of the presidency and the American experience. We preserve and provide access to historical materials, support research, and create interactive programs and exhibits that educate and inspire.
Now I was thinking, what historical material better exemplifies the presidency of George W. Bush more than the children's story "My Pet Goat" – the story he was reading when he was notified of the tragedy on 9/11.
I did some research on the book and found that the title of the story is not "My Pet Goat", but rather "The Pet Goat". It is also not a book unto itself, but a story contained in a book titled "Reading Mastery - Level 2 Storybook 1".
My proposal is that we begin a project to encourage everyone to donate a copy of "Reading Mastery - Level 2 Storybook 1" to the George W. Bush Presidential Center on, or shortly after, it’s opening - something I'm sure the media would want to promote.
Maybe a few copies, or maybe even thousands, or tens of thousands of copies.
Now, I realize that the library may not want a few copies, or maybe even thousands, or tens of thousands of copies of the book "Reading Mastery - Level 2 Storybook 1" in the George W. Bush Presidential Center. They would probably have to dispose of the excess. The only logical thing to do with that many books would be to donate them to school libraries around the country. I’m sure that the media would be more than happy to assist in publicizing such a generous gesture:
"The George W. Bush Presidential Center Donates Thousands of Copies of "The Pet Goat" to Public Schools Across the Country"
We have a civic duty to be sure that future generations understand the presidency of George W. Bush, and that it is accurately preserved in a manner that truly reflects the sentiment of the American public during the time he was in office.
Groundbreaking for the George W. Bush Presidential Center is scheduled for 2009, so we have lots of time to organize this. If you think this idea has any merit, please respond in the affirmative. If enough of you agree, we can then proceed to outline the organization we will need to accomplish this task.
