I guess it's true what they say about denial being the first stage of grief. Check out what Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is telling CNN:
Moderates to blame for GOP losses, conservative leader says
BTW, don't you just love conservative groups with "family" in the name? It's usually a tipoff that they're less interested in their own families than telling you what to do with yours.
According to Mr. Perkins:
Moderates never beat conservatives. We've seen that in past elections.
Really? Tell that to Pat Buchanan.
Oh, and also pretty much everyone in America is really wrong about the outcome of the election. Good thing we have Mr. Perkins to explain it to us:
There was clearly no mandate to shift the country to the left on social issues... What Tuesday was, was a fact that people wanted change, and it's a rejection of a moderate view.
Okay, let's go over this one more time: Americans voted for President-Elect Obama because they thought the McCain ticket was just too moderate. Clearly we want more conservative leaders, so that's why we voted for Obama.
Hold on, I have to hit my head against this brick wall for a while until I reach the point where this makes sense...
...Nope, still doesn't. And now my head hurts.
All of this comes after the much-balleyhooed post-election meeting of conservative minds that was supposed to reinvigorate the conservative movement. And nothing says "invigorate" like "we're right and reality is wrong." If this is what the Republican civil war is going to look like, then it's obvious what we as progressives must do... get the popcorn.
