"We are all Georgians now."
It shouldn't be an issue, but Republicans seem to have decided that success is defined as failure--more specifically, that they succeed by causing someone or something else to fail. Which is why they've become obstructionists in the Congress. If things don't go their way, they simple resorts to parliamentary procedures to stymie every Democratic effort to get the job done.
So, if we want a chance to create a rational, centrally funded health care program, as well as re-start an economy that's about to slide into recession (a word Senator Chambliss doesn't know the meaning of) we need to insure a filibuster-proof majority in the United States Senate.
That's why Donna Brazile is heading down to Georgia to help get out the vote for Jim Martin on December 2nd. In her own words:
I'm on my way to Georgia, and I wanted to send you a quick message. When I heard Jim Martin was in a runoff, I cleared my calendar because I knew I needed to do whatever I could to ensure a big win for Jim in the 15 short days we have until the election.
Back in 2002, I helped Mary Landrieu win a runoff in Louisiana, so I know what it takes to win a race like this one, and I know that you can't win unless everyone does their part. That includes the volunteers phone banking, the canvassers knocking on doors, and supporters like you helping Jim raise the resources he needs to win. I know you've shown your support in the past, but now is the time to dig deep for Jim.
The reference to Mary Landrieu is really appropriate because snagging the Georgia U. S. Senate seat for Democrat Martin would really be lagniappe, just that little bit extra that makes life sweet.
The National Democrats didn't expect Jim Martin would do so well, just like they never expected our own Carol Shea-Porter in New Hampshire to replace an entrenched Republican. Though, as in Chambliss' case, it was hard to see why not, since the incumbent Republican was really out of touch with the people he was sent to represent.
Anyway, Donna Brazile's argument is a good one--
Runoff elections are like nothing else in politics. What a campaign normally does over the course of months, or even years, is condensed down into a matter of days. That's why it's so crucial that we have your support now.
Saxby Chambliss is getting desperate. He's teamed up with out-of-state radical groups to launch the vicious attack ads that are Saxby's trademark. But voters rejected those negative campaign attacks when they voted for Barack Obama - and they'll reject them again when they elect Jim Martin.
I wouldn't be on my way to Georgia to help Jim if I didn't know that we can win this race. Georgians are ready for change, and they're ready for a U.S. Senator who will work with President-elect Obama - not someone who is dead-set on blocking his ambitious agenda.
And, she's looking for a bit of money to get the word out.

If nothing else, the Martin race will let you ease out of the campaign mode gradually. No need to suffer withdrawal pangs.
