Personally, I feel that a lot of the cabinet picks Obama has made are generally underwhelming. They aren't bad picks, but they aren't exactly the picks I would have liked to have seen. Instead of Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State, why didn't he choose Richard Holbrooke? And instead of Janet Napolitano as head of Homeland Security, I would have preferred Wes Clark.
So at any rate, these are some ideas that I have for Obama's remaining cabinet picks:
Department of Defense: Sam Nunn (retired senator from Georgia, and former member of Senate Armed Services Committee).
National Security Advisor: Gary Hart (former senator who hepled write the Hart/Rudman security bill before 9/11).
Secretary of Interior: Jay Inslee (congressman from Washington State).
Head of EPA: Robert Kennedy, JR.
Secretary of Labor: Richard Gephardt (former House Speaker and hero to union members everywhere).
Secretary of Commerce: Robert Reich (I know Bill Richardson has been picked for this post, but I think that he would be a better fit somewhere else).
Head of Veterans Affairs: Max Cleland (former Senator from Georgia defeated by redneck asshole Saxby Chambliss in 2002).
Director of CIA: Rand Beers (colleague of Richard Clarke, and advisor on national security issues who advised John Kerry during his 2004 campaign for President).
I think these are some solid picks for cabinet posts, and only one of them is a former Clinton administration retread. All of these picks have reasonably progressive credentials, and they shouldn't have too much trouble getting confirmed. Even better, none of these people (with the exception of Jay Inslee) are currently serving in Congress, so teh Democrats would not have to worry about filling their vacated seats in the legislature.
I would love to hear what other people within the DailyKos community think about these choices, and would like to hear some other picks people would like to add to this list.
