A hateful, deceitful man has been removed. America is now a better place for his absence.
Paul Weyrich, impediment to democracy, hater of all mankind -- the devil take him for Weyrich is one of the devil's own.
The man had a problem with what he called the "goo goo syndrome," an antiquated belief in what he sneeringly regarded as "good government," my goodness, an odious arrangement in which everyone gets to vote.
Grover Norquist, another odious and repulsive man, gives him a touching eulogy:
Ideas alone do not have consequences. Ideas, even — or especially — powerful ideas are like seeds. If they land in fertile soil and are cultivated they can grow. On rock or sand or ignored or tended by incompetents they die.
The idea of individual liberty and a limited constitutional government has been around a long time. Liberty doesn’t need new ideas to advance, but institutions to give muscle and skeletal structure to a political movement for liberty. That is how Paul Weyrich changed the world for the better.
Paul Weyrich created institutions and networks that incubated new and old powerful policies and strategies to advance liberty. The Heritage Foundation. ALEC. The Free Congress Foundation. The Kingston meeting. Many of the structures of the "religious right." He understood that only freedom could successfully promote traditional values. He brought leaders of various freedom impulses together. Most of the successes of the Conservative movement since the 1970s flowed from structures, organizations, and coalitions he started, created or nurtured....

Individual liberty. But not for everyone.
Norquist makes the false claim that Weyrich "created institutions and networks that incubated new and old powerful policies and strategies to advance liberty."
Again, I say, but not for everyone.
Freedom. But not for everyone.
Let us mark Weyrich's creations, The Heritage Foundation, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), whose alleged mission is:
..to advance the Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government, federalism, and individual liberty, through a nonpartisan public-private partnership of America's state legislators, members of the private sector, the federal government, and general public.
...to promote these principles by developing policies that ensure the powers of government are derived from, and assigned to, first the People, then the States, and finally, the Federal Government.
...to enlist state legislators from all parties and members of the private sector who share ALEC's mission.
...to conduct a policy making program that unites members of the public and private sectors in a dynamic partnership to support research, policy development, and dissemination activities.
...to prepare the next generation of political leadership through educational programs that promote the principles of Jeffersonian democracy, which are necessary for a free society.

Also, The Free Congress Foundation. The Kingston meeting must not be excluded from our wary watchfulness. I consider these creations to be the enemies of America, no matter what claims they make about their virtue.
I rather think the sentiments of one Ray Abernathy are fitting:
Paul Weyrich, the uber-religionist and founder of the Heritage Foundation, for spending a lifetime trying to replace our democracy with a theocracy, for linking conservatism inescapably with homophobia, antisemitism, and sexism, and for red-baiting a docile media into becoming a fearsome adversary.

As Americans who are loyal to the ideals of our nation's Founders and the Constitution they created to birth this nation we call America... as such we must remain vigilant and wary, watching these devil children of the late Paul Weyrich, we must repair the damage already done by these children and go on to curb their propensity for doing damage in the future.
