Dr. Sonjay Gupta of CNN is a guy on T.V.
Quickly, I think anybody that has appeared on television on whatever network is automatically disqualified from any sort of public office.
I would prefer a Surgeon General who has at least spent more time in academia/research than preening in front of a camera.
Perhaps, a Doctor who doesn't do interviews on any network newscasts.
What else do I have to say? Hospice care for loved ones?
I'm an engineer- so let me specify.
Health Care Reform in general.
Or, specifically, how to modify the insurance/billing/union bureaucracy that has made the American Medical establishment a traumitic experience for even the best insured?
How is the Doctor going to do that?
A doctor who could perhaps lay out specific steps to not only improve quality of life in not only this country, but across the world.
A research-minded scientist who perhaps at least is looking towards addressing issues like abortion, stem-cell research, means towards eliminating second term abortions?
Perhaps a Surgeon General who admits that abstinence is not a workable option?
A Doctor who is qualified to look at facing immunizations against germ warfare?
A Doctor who would perhaps look at asking for better inspections of meat processing plants to perhaps detect if we have a new strain of avian bird flu?
These aren't the best questions a person could ask, I'm asking you if you think Dr. Sanjay Gupta has ever said one word about these issues.
