As I read this short but monumental announcement I was ashamed of what we allowed G W Bush to do. When Bush decided that America would now have as policy the doctrine of Pre-emptive attacks there should of been a roar from Americans against such a policy. Instead for the most part the masses said nothing. Our Forefathers made it clear that our Armed Forces were for the protection of the USA, not for imperialism.
BEIJING, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- China has explicitly stated a "no first use of nuclear weapons" policy for the first time, saying its nuclear weapons are not aimed at any country.
The declarations were contained in a white paper on national defense released in Beijing Tuesday, Xinhua, the state-run Chinese news agency, reported. In it, China's Information Office of the State Council stated its intention to implement "a self-defensive nuclear strategy." China states 'no first use' nuke policy
China could never of felt safe with this policy as long as Bush was Commander in Chief, but I think they may feel much safer after today. Safe enough to make this public knowledge. A truly monumental disclosure like this should not be drown out by Obamas time in the spotlight.
While we can be sure that some of the old China experts will poo-poo this and as we continue to stay alert to every threat, the idea of Chinas nukes no longer pointed at the West may allow our children to grow up will just a little less fear to deal with as they grow into adults. It's as if China has been touched by this Obama movement away from imperialism, fear and destructiveness
"In peacetime, the nuclear missile weapons of the Second Artillery Force are not aimed at any country,"
Nixon may of opened China to trade but we will need to wait before we proclaim Barack Obama as the one that allowed China to feel safe enough to allow this public disclosure. OK, that's a long enough wait don't you think ? We have yet to hear Pres. Obamas speech but it has been one of my prayers that he also rejects the Bush Doctrine today. The synchronicity of that moment will be as historic as anything else today.
This could very well be the icing on the cake on one of the most anticipated days in American history and should not be lost in the crush of the day.
