I heard someone today say "If Caroline Kennedy was anyone else, we would never even be considering her. I see the intention behind this comment, but it is actually a straw man argument. The fact is that Caroline Kennedy IS Caroline Kennedy and can never be anyone but Caroline Kennedy. Many of the things that come with being Caroline Kennedy are things people are looking to see in their New York senator. I am not convinced that she is the right choice, but either way, we need to judge her based on the actual information in front of us. The "if she were..." argument only addresses a sub-set of all that is known about her, namely, the things Caroline Kennedy has in common with the speakers biased and abstracted form of what "any one else" is.
