In September 2003, Richard Perle, a man who has an astounding record of being wrong about everything, said:
a year from now, I’ll be very surprised if there is not some grand square in Baghdad that is named after President Bush.
Well, Iraqis finally made a statue in George W. Bush's honor:
That's right, in the town of Tikrit, Iraqis created a statue of a shoe, in honor of George W. Bush and the man who threw a shoe at him.
As was explained at the statue's unveiling:
"This is a gift for the family of Muntazer al-Zaidi, a hero, whose act helped Iraqi people feel proud," a member of the children's foundation told a crowd of 400 people gathered for the unveiling of the work of art.
Al-Zaidi is the man who infamously threw a shoe at Bush.
Now, I don't condone the act of throwing a shoe at Bush. But, more to the point, I definitely don't condone what Bush and his cronies did to Iraq, America and the world. Two words describe his presidency:
Epic Fail:
Because the traditional media generally does not report on what al-Zaidi said as he threw the shoe, here are his words:
This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog. This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq.
Bush responded with happy-talk babble about how people throw shoes in free society, and, under Saddam's regime, al-Zaidi would be tortured and killed. Under the current regime, al-Zaidi has been tortured.
Epic Fail
Rec list - thanks everyone! Now that I'm on the reclist for mocking Bush, like an actor hijacking the academy awards to talk about a pet cause, I want to focus on a substantive issue: marriage equality in New York. NY can be the first state to recognize marriage equality through the legislature, not throw the courts. If you're a New Yorker, I urge you to volunteer on February 3, Marriage Equality day (click here to volunteer). We're close to a massive change. Also, join The Power to support this cause.
