This is my first Diary here at Daily Kos. I wanted to publish the letter I sent to my Senator in support of the stimulus package. I know she is already for it, but now that I'm unemployed I have a lot more time on my hands and I wanted her to know that this constituent is with her. I felt that posting it here might allow me to archive it in a way, and perhaps provide inspiration for others to contact their own congresspeople.

Letter begins below.
Hello, Senator.
I just wanted to briefly voice my support for the stimulus package in the Senate today. Specifically, the pieces that deal with energy independence and health care technology standardization are absolutely integral to not only helping us out of the current economic crisis, but also ensuring that America can continue to prosper without being bogged down by future health and energy crises.
If we do not act now, the current downturn will be nothing compared to the fallout from American producers and consumers paying $4+/gallon of fuel while also losing considerable amounts of their profits or paychecks to health care costs.
Furthermore, I wholeheartedly reject the notion that the national debt is too large to undertake legislation of this magnitude. The simple fact of the matter is that the Bush administration's don't-tax-but-spend-a-lot policies drove the debt to unprecedented levels, and all we got from it was this recession. It's time for meaningful spending on programs that will put money in at the bottom and let it flow upwards. And if that means taking on a larger deficit, I support it. As a young voter, I will likely be seeing the ramifications of this bill's inflating of the national debt, however I believe the benefits far outweigh the cost.
Last, I would like to mention I was for this legislation 2 weeks ago, and since getting laid off from (OMITTED FROM DKOS) last week, I support it even more fervently.
Thank you,
(OMITTED FROM DKOS)
