Good evening and welcome to the third Monday Got a Happy Story. This series for sharing what is making you happy is over four years old but now on Monday night it is also offered as a place to recapture the previous weekend.
I was going to post an informative field guide to nature in winter tonight but with this being the closest Happy Story to Valentines Day I'm going to recapture some of the photos and retell the story of how I spent last Valentines Day. Hanging out with my favorite little winter lovebirds.
This little acrobat is the Black-capped Chickadee. This entertaining northeastern bird that can often be seen walking around upside down in trees also has very little fear of humans.
During the winter months the Black-capped Chickadees group together in flocks of about sixteen and once one of these bold birds that are named for their call sees a friendly human others are sure to follow.
It is really amazing. In winter when food is scares these little birds are attracted to any outstretched hand and they lead by example. The speck of red in the background is a Cardinal trying to work up the courage.
A real live bird in the palm of you hand can help you forget all about stimulus packages and banking bailouts.
And the Black-capped Chickadee makes a lovely dining companion.
The conversation is even more engaging.
No but seriously if you ever feel the need for a little thrill in the dead of winter and you hear that call "Chick-a-dee." Just put our your hand and you will be amazed as this little tiny bird lands there. If you don't have any food in your hand they won't come back but a crumbled up Saltine cracker will keep them coming back until the last crumb is gone.
And when one looks up at you to say "thank you" you'll be glad you did.
Do you have a happy thought or story to share? There are no rules in this good feelings comment section so feel free to treat this weekly series like a open thread. Links to and discussions about you own work is encouraged. If you are feeling blue than write that here too.
I hope you had a happy Monday and will have a Happy Valentine's Day.
Note: The new normal posting time for Got a Happy Story is Monday at 8:30 eastern but I thought tonight would be a good night for an early posting.
